Repotting Dendrobiums

Hundreds of dendrobiums were donated to be used in the grotto, and some of that surplus overflowed into the Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club’s monthly meeting on May 8.

Each member was allowed to select two orchids, and then Betty Matsuo showed the club how to prepare their dendrobiums for repotting.

Mission: Accomplished

After months of hard work, the orchid grotto is finally complete.

Rev. Jiko gave a touching blessing the morning of May 25, officially dedicating the orchid grotto and adding an exclamation point to one of the Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club’s most ambitious projects. The KDOC presented the grotto to the Daifukuji Soto Mission as a centennial gift in honor of Jim and Norma Lathrop.

Roy Tokunaga to speak at June KDOC meeting

Roy Tokunaga of H&R Nurseries in Waimanalo on Oahu will be the guest speaker at KDOC’s monthly meeting on June 12. In addition to his duties at the world renowned H&R, Roy is a long time member of the Honolulu Orchid Society and an accredited American Orchid Society judge.

Around the Island 2013

Carmela Orchids and The Orchid Works are the featured stops on this year’s Around the Island Tour on Saturday, July 20. The Motorcoach tourbus will pick up the early birds at Greenwell Farms (81-6581 Mamalahoa Hwy) at 6:45 am, and everyone else can board in Kailua at Old Kona Airport at 7:15.
