Appleman immortalizes orchid grotto on canvas

IMG_9130KDOC president Sarah Fogelstrom commissioned local artist Bob Appleman to do a painting of the newly-completed orchid grotto, which was presented to the club at this year’s orchid show.
Some orchid paintings Appleman had done caught Fogelstrom’s eye one day, and she asked him if he’d be interested in doing a painting of the grotto. He said he was, but nothing was really set in stone, so she just left it at that.
“Up until the show I really wasn’t sure if he was going to do it or not,” Fogelstrom said. “Then he surprised me by bringing the painting. He did such a beautiful job!”
Appleman is a retired surgeon who took up painting and he lives in North Kohala. Check out his website at www.applemanart.com.
