Carmela Orchids and The Orchid Works are the featured stops on this year’s Around the Island Tour on Saturday, July 20.
The Motorcoach tourbus will pick up the early birds at Greenwell Farms (81-6581 Mamalahoa Hwy) at 6:45 am, and everyone else can board in Kailua at Old Kona Airport at 7:15.
From there the tour will take the northern route towards Hilo, stopping in Waimea at the Farmers Market for a break. The bus should arrive at Carmela Orchids by 10:15 and hit The Orchid Works by noon.
Everyone on board the tourbus should bring their own sack lunch. The owner of Orchid Works has graciously offered the use of her lanai for dining, or people can just eat along the way.
The bus will drop people off at Old Airport at 4:30 and at Greenwell Farms at 5pm.

Waimea Farmers Market
Every Saturday the Waimea Homestead Farmers Market offers fresh locally grown produce, flowers, plants and delicious local and ethnic made to order foods. It also will provide us with an ideal restroom stop.
10:15am – 12:00pm
Established in 1960, Carmela Orchids offers several varieties of orchids, such as, cattleya, dendrobium, phalaenopsis, oncidium and vanda, which are all available in everything from flasks to mature blooming plants.
12:10 – 2:00pm
The Orchid Works
This big-time oncidiinae orchid plug producer de-flasks over one million orchid plants a year. Due to their extremely unique location on the windward side of the island, they have the perfect climate for aiding this transition.
