Orchid Grotto wins Betty Crocker Landscape Award

WAIKIKI BEACH, HI – The Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club was recognized by Scenic Hawai’i, Inc. at the 11th annual Betty Crocker Landscape Awards ceremony at the Outrigger Canoe Club on June 19 for its involvement with the Orchid Grotto.

The KDOC won the Award of Appreciation under the volunteer/community garden category. Club president Sarah Fogelstrom was on hand to receive the honor, a beautiful wooden plaque with a Hawaiian coat of arms.

“When they announced Daifukuji Orchid club at the ceremony the front two rows of people, mainly Japanese, cheered!” Fogelstrom said.

“When I went up to receive the award Jac overheard them saying how great our orchid show is and that they really like our club. I thought this was amazing to hear being in Oahu.”

The Scenic Hawai’i awards are named in honor of Betty Crocker, one of the founders of the organization, and recognize gardens whose beauty reflects the gardener’s love of the land and appreciation of the natural beauty of Hawai’i.
